Provides a basis for classification and coding in dentistry. Allows the dentist to focus on a detailed diagnosis for each case, provides a standard recording system, and makes possible the compilation of epidemiological data on national and inter- national levels. The tabular list is divided into 17 subject categories and each heading is provided with a number of up to five digits. The tabular list is numerically arranged. The index provides a detailed subject arrangement in alphabe- tical order. Included is an extract from the numerical index of the morphology of neoplasms (ICD-O) and annexes containing histological classifications of various tumors and lesions. The section on the clinical examination looks at areas such as soft tissues, the periodontium, the teeth, occlusion, and the edentulous mouth. Primarily for the clinician, this text classifies pathologic conditions in a unique manner. "Regardless of etiology or area of occurrence, all similar-appearing lesions are grouped together and discussed in the same chapter." These chapters span both soft tissue and bony lesions. H. Written with the oral surgeon, the general dental practitioner and the dental student in mind. Provides detailed explanations of techniques in oral surgical operations. Profuse illustrations and accompanying legends clarify and amplify the text. Case histories have been included. Among the topics covered are tooth extraction, surgical endodontics, oral cysts, radio- graphy, fractures, dentofacial orthopedics, mandibular and maxillary surgery, transplantation procedures, and cleft palate. This text fully explains the principles and practice of the light wire differential force technique developed by Dr. Begg for orthodontic treatment. According to Dr. Begg, by using this method, "the dental arches as a whole can be placed in more appropriate positions in the jaws. Required root move- ments not only can be effected but can be overdone wherever overmovement is desirable." Divided up by specific drug groups, most chapters contain a list of the drug names mentioned, both proprietary and non- proprietary names. Cited and general references provide completeness and opportunity for further study. General principles of pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, pharma- cotherapeutics, and drug interactions are also presented. Some special subjects are the management of pain, drug abuse, and treatment of oral complications of cancer chemotherapy. L. Section 1 reviews the biochemistry, physiology and pathology associated with nutrients, including their effects on the oral cavity. The second section provides factual answers to questions patients ask about food (ranging from questions on food additives to food processing to health foods).
