DISEASE The enemy not only bombed, 
burned and otherwise destroyed the 
lands he occupied but he also left behind 
a trail of venereal disease. Why? 
The enemy brought V.D. with him, he 
helped spread that which already existed 
and he confiscated the drugs needed to 
combat it. Even the enemy’s home lands haven’t 
fared much better for after the drugs 
taken from other countries were used up 
he was short of supplies to treat those 
infected with venereal disease, and allied 
bombing so disrupted his medical and 
public health facilities that V.D. has been 
able to spread almost unchecked. THE 11 DATE

# Thus you will find that in some areas 
the V.D. rate among the civilian popula- 
tion is extremely high, many times higher 
than in the U.S. If you expose yourself it 
is easy to see that your chances of picking 
up a venereal disease are very great. 
In some countries you will find moral 
standards different than those at home, 
higher in some ways, lower in others. 
Don’t let the lower standards you may 
find influence you into lowering your own. Unless you continue to live by the moral 
code of your own country you may 
almost certainly regret it, for among other 
things you risk having your health and 
future happiness wrecked by venereal 
disease. don't

In some foreign countries prostitution is 
widespread and open. In some places 
you’ll even find it under government 
supervision. In any case don’t get the 
idea that an approved prostitute is safe. V.D. is hard to detect in a woman. 
Health cards and certificates of free- 
dom from venereal disease don’t mean 
a thing. So-called examinations are 
usually carelessly and superficially done 
and are worthless. Remember too that 
even if a proper examination was done 
a prostitute does a big business and 
could be infected shortly after she had 
been declared safe.

Not only ore the more common venereal 
diseases, syphilis, gonorrhea and chan- 
croid, prevalent overseas but also in 
some countries, especially in the tropics,

in the United States. The two above can 
do great harm to your sex organs, caus- 
ing sores which are slow to heal with a 
great deal of scarring. Sometimes there 
is permanent destruction and deformity 
of parts of the sex organs. PRO 
If you are foolish enough to expose your- 
self in spite of these warnings be wise 
enough to take all precautions. 
Always use a rubber (condom). 
Report as soon as possible after sex 
exposure to an official Army prophy- 
laxis station. If no station is available 
then—

promptly after exposure following 
carefully the simple directions in-
