RHEUMATIC CONJUNCTIVITIS. By A. L. Hodgdoii, M. D., BalUmol'e. REPRINTED FROM THE Maryland Medical Journal, August 11, 1894. Was called to see Mrs. J. and found intense inflammation of the right con- junctiva with radiating pains through the head; ordered: K-Sodii Borat. . . grs. x Aq. Extr. Opii . . grs. j Aquae Camphor . . 5 ij Aquae . . . . 5 j M. et Sig. A few drops in the eye three times a day. I also gave internally small doses of the sulphate of morphia to quiet the pain. The above not proving very ef- fective, I ordered in its place : U-Zinc Sulphat. . . gr. j Atropiae Sulphat. . . gr. j Aquae Rosae . . 3 iv M. et Sig. A few drops in the eye three times a day. Suspecting a rheumatic element pres- ent in the disease, I added to the treat- ment colcliicin, gr. Ti7, every three hours, and during the treatment the pa- tient improved rapidly. As soon as some nausea was produced by the colchicin I diminished the dose to gr. every three hours. I had treated this same patient three months before for acute articular rheumatism.
