PROSPECTUS OF INSTRUCTION Phili. lying-in Chmity, GIVEN AT THE Spring Q>f iSSfe PRACTICAL OBSTETRICS. The course will commence on Monday, April nth, 1887, and continue for ten weeks. The opening lecture will be given on Mon- day, April nth, at 5 p. m. The second and third lectures will be given on Wednesday, April 13th, and Friday, April 15th, at the same hour. After the first week the hours will be arranged so as not to interfere with the regular work of the various medical colleges. All medical students at regular medical colleges, and graduates in medicine, are invited to attend. The course will consist of forty lectures and twenty demonstrations. The instruc- tion will be practical in character, embracing the diagnosis of preg- nancy, disorders of pregnancy, the management of natural labor, and of the various forms of dystocia, and the obstetric operations. Especial attention will be given and facilities afforded for the instruc- tion of the student in the practical duties of the lying-in chamber. The student is made to take personal charge and assume personal responsibility of the patient, making the instruction resemble as near as possible private practice. A corps of competent assistants are always ready to aid the student in any emergency. Students will be invited in regular order to attend personally the cases of labor occurring in the wards of the hospital, under Dr. Wilson’s supervision. Students will also make stated visits to the wards with Dr. Wilson for the purpose of learning the diagnosis of the positions and the details of the treatment of the puer- peral diseases. Cases for attendance at their own homes will be assigned students in regular order. The material is abundant, about twelve cases occurring in the hospital, and about thirty cases occurring in the outside practice of the Institution every month. 14,000 cases have thus far been attended by the students of this Institution. PRACTICAL GYNAECOLOGY. Courses on Practical Gynaecology will be given at the Clinic of the Philadelphia Lying-in Charity, No. 126 North Eleventh Street, throughout the entire year. Each Course will last six weeks. Students may enter these classes at any time. Students will receive clinical instruction, under the supervision of the Staff of the Hospital, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, at II A. m. Each class will be limited to six. Students attending this Course will have the privilege of wit- nessing the operations in the Hospital, and will have the oppor- tunity of acting as assistants at private operations. A limited number of gentlemen will be received as* office stu- dents, to whom the instruction at the Lying-in Charity is free. The terms for office students, who act as Dr. Wilson’s assistants in pri- vate practice, is $100 per annum. FEES.
