1. Samples of typhus vaccines prepared from Infected rabbit 
lung and infected yolk sacs of embryonated eggs were obtained by 
the CIOS team that inspected the Behringwerke at Marburg, Germany 
on April 5 & 6, 194-5. The result of laboratory studies on these 
vaccines are summarized at this time. 
2, The rabbit vaccine probably was prepared in mid 1944, 
as the expiration date is given as June 1945; the yolk sac vaccine 
probably was prepared late in 1944 as the expiration date is given 
as December 1945. 
3. Stained smears of the rabbit vaccine showed much debrfs 
and a few bodies morphologically like rickettsia. The yolk sac 
material microscopically showed small amounts of debris with large 
numbers of typical rickettsial bodies present. The samples of 
typhus vaccines prepared at Marburg from rabbit lung had little 
detectable complement fixing antigen of typhus. In contrast, the 
yolk sac vaccine had good quantities of this antigen when compared 
with U.S. Army typhus vaccine. The result of complement fixation 
studies on the vaccines are presented in the accompanying table. 
Animals were not immunized with the Marburg vaccines.
