Mr. Gibson introduced the following hill: A BILL To establish a marine hospital at or near New Orleans, and for other purposes. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa- tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury is authorized and directed to purchase such land and to erect thereon such buildings as in the opinion of the Supervising Surgeon-General of the Marine Hospital Service shall be necessary for a marine hos- pital at or near New Orleans. Sec. 2. That the sum of two hundred and fifty thousand dollars, or so much thereof as shall be necessary, is hereby appropriated, out of any money in the Treasury not other- wise appropriated, for the purchase of said land and for the construction of said buildings, to be expended under the direction of the Secretary of the Treasury. 2 Sec. 3. That the Secretary of the Treasury is authorized and directed to sell the present marine hospital, and the land \ whereon it is situated (provided the same shall he reported hy the Supervising Surgeon-General to he unserviceable and badly located), at public auction, after thirty days’ advertise- merit, upon such terms and conditions as he shall deem best.
