Read twice, referred to the Committee on Commerce, and ordered to be printed Mr. Thomas introduced the following hill: A BILL To provide for the construction of a marine hospital at Cairo, Illinois. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa- tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Surgeon-General of the Marine Hospital Service he, and he is hereby, empowered to procure, subject to the ap- proval of the Secretary of the Treasury, a proper site in or near the city of Cairo, Illinois, and cause to be erected there- on buildings suitable for a marine hospital, after plans and specifications which shall he furnished by the Supervising Architect of the Treasury Department and approved by the said Surgeon-General of tlie Marine Hospital Service. Sec. 2. That the sum of one hundred thousand dollars, or so much thereof as may he necessary, he, and the same is hereby, appropriated, to be expended by the Secretary of the Treasury, upon the requisition of the Surgeon-General of the Marine Hospital Service, in the purchase of the said site 2 and the erection of the said buildings thereon, including the cost of heating and ventilating apparatus, and the necessary furniture therefor.
