JOHN WYETH & BROTHER’S COMPRESSED TABLETS O F BI-CARBONATE OF SODA AND BI-CARBONATE OF POTASH. Useful in all cases where an antacid is indicated. The value of alkalies, and especially of the bi-carbonates of Potash and Soda, is very fully understood by medical men, and to a great extent also by the public. In a very large class of cases Indigestion, Flatulency, Heartburn and Colic, are due to an excess of acid in the stomach; and this condition usually constitutes an important element in Gout, Rheuma- tism and Gravel. Bi-Carbonate of Soda is but slightly soluble, (requiring 35 parts of water at the temperature of the body.) In the form of our Compressed Tablets it dissolves even more slowly, and therefore produces a mild and gradual antacid effect, without disagreeable taste. Another advantage of it is that it maintain! the phosphates in solution, (by reason of its super- abundance of carbonic acid,) and prevents the formation of deposits of this character. For administration, the tablet form possesses many easily appreciated advantages over that of solution. A smaller quantity of the article is required, and its purity is assured. The exact dose called for can be given. The remedy can be carried about the person, and taken at any time without trouble or annoyance. Dose.—As an antacid, one every two or three hours till relieved. For Gout, Rheumatism or Gravel, one or two thrice daily. JOHN WYETH & BROTHER’S COMPRESSED TABLETS OF Bi-Carbonate of Potash.
