GENERAL ORDERS, No. 171. WAR DEPARTMENT, ADJUTANT GENERAL'S OFFICE, IKasZtznfltfon, December 20, 1865. Settlement of Clothing Accounts of Volunteers. Hereafter, in the settlement of the clothing accounts of volunteer soldiers discharged since March 3, 1865, the same amount of cloth- ing will be allowed as in the case of regular soldiers. Each soldier will be credited with the amount of clothing due for the period of actual service from the date of enlistment, or from the date of last settlement in case a prior settlement has been made, and will be charged with the amount drawn during the same period. The same rule will govern in all settlements of clothing accounts of volunteer soldiers made since March 3, 1865, whether final or the regular annual settlements indicated in Paragraph 1150, Revised Regulations, In making up the soldier's credit, reference will be had to the General Orders from this Office, fixing the allowance of clothing for the regular army for the period included in the settle- ment, and he will be credited a pro rata of the year's allowance for the year (1st, 2d or 3d, as the case may be,) in which he was serving at the timeofhis discharge; and he will be charged with the money value of the clothing drawn as estimated by the list of prices pub- lished in said orders.
