The following Article of War, (94), is published for information and observe ancc in this Department; When any commissioned officer shall die or be killed in the service of the Con- federate States, the Major of the Regiment, or the officer doing the Major’s duty in his absence, or in any post or garrison, the second officer in command, or the assistant military agent, shall immediately secure all his effects or equipage, then in camp or quarters, and shall make an inventory thereof, and forthwith transmit the same to the office of the Deparment of War, to the end that his executors or administrators may receive the same,’’ If a legal administrator or family connexion be present, and take charge of the ef- fects. it will be so stated in the inventory : a duplicate of which inventory will also bo sent to these Head Quarters. 11. Inventories of the effects, or money of deceased non-commissioned officers and soldiers, required by the 95th Article of War, will be forwarded to the Adjutant Gen- eral by the Commander of the company to which the deceased belonged, and a du- plicate of the same to the Colonel of the regiment. Final statements of pay, clothing, etc., will be sent with the inventories. When a soldier dies at a post, sta- tion or hospital, absent from his company, it will be the duty of his immediate Commander, or Surgeon to furnish the required inventory, and at the same time forward to the Commanding officer of the company, to which the soldier belonged, a report of his death, specifying the date, place and cause ; to what time he was agt paid, and the money or other effects possessed at the time of his decease; which report'wifi be noted on the next muster-roll of the company to which the man bc- onged. Each inventory will be endorsed, “ Inventory of the effects of , late °f Company (—), Regiment of .who died at , the day of ~ ■ 186 —.” ff a legal representative receive the effects, it will be so stated in the report.
