The above cut shows an applicator that excels all others in the treatment of Catarrhal 
ailments (nose, throat, etc.). In A, place lodine Crys. In B, Menthol. In 0, Eucalyptol; each in 
‘‘surgeon” wool. This compound vapor should be drawn lightly a few minutes two or three 
times daily. Few, indeed, are the cases it will not control. It will block this road to the 
charlatan, if put in reach of the people. And it is with this end in view, as well as other good, 
it is thus briefly noticed to you, and priced so low as 13.00 per dozen;sl.6o per half-dozen, or 40c. 
for one. Order a dozen for office use, to put out in treatments, as many do, at two to three 
dollars per week—furnishing everything. They advertise themselves by giving relief—one 
tells another—all are conscious something should be done. That Catarrh has been neglected is 
true, of which neglect quacks have taken advantage—have had a harvest. By having three 
chambers (A. B, C) both the generation and diffusion of the vapors are favored. To which fact is 
due largely the matchless results attending the use of this simple device. Details of treatment

In A place lodine Crys., grs. X in cotton or wool (“surgeon’s” only) cleverly filling the 
chamber. This would last two or three days, but it ought to be renewed daily. Empty the 
chamber when through for the day. If left in till the morrow the lodine may be found in 
chamber C embracing the Eucalyptol that may not have been completely evaporated therefrom. 
Bear in mind that the mixing of these agents otherwise than in vapor form stifles utility. In B 
put a liberal deal of Menthol in wool only. This will last ten days or longer before recharging 
is necessary. In C drop sor 6 minims of Kucalyptol diluted one part to eight of Cologne Spts., 
in wool only, each application. The wool in B and C need not be replaced often. The instru- 
ment should be returneri to the physician to be recharged (A and B) when convenient. Applying 
the lodine too strongly is the apt mistake not only with this but any other means of applying 
that agent to this class of ailments. As already intimated, by means of three chambers A. B, 
C, better vaporation and compounding or mixing of the vapors is afforded, which is doubtless 
the secret of the unparalleled success of this new method in the treatment of catarrh. 
The vapor from the instrument as charged should be drawn lightly a few minutes two or 
three times daily—from two to three weeks. Then once or twice each evening about the same 
length of time. Then every alternate evening for alike time as before. Then once or twice 
weekly (prolonging the application) until the cure is complete. This is an approximation of 
typical cases (Chronic). B Constitutional measures should not be neglected where indications 
obtain (Arsenite of Iron, Strychnia Arsenite and Calcii Sulphide especially being indicated 
usually). In acute oases a few days’ use only is all that is required for their control, supple- 
menting with an anodyne, and lessening the strength at A and increasing it at B and C.
