March 5, 1962 From: Fred Grubel To: Mr. N. Herskovits Subject: Pacemaker Fund The hospital's Treasurer approved that an amount of $650. be transferred from the General Research Fund to the Pacemaker Fund in order to cover the expense of the purchase of a pacemaker for an urgent service case. It is understood that this amount be repaid to the General Research Fund over a period of time if and when the Pacemaker Fund has excess monies available. You also will want to note that private and semi-private patients requiring pacemakers should be charged at cost plus 15 percent, that is, at the present time $650. plus 15 percent for an internal pacemaker and $350., plus 15 percent for an external pacemaker. The proceeds from these charges will be deposited in the Pacemaker Fund. The accumulated surcharges should enable us to purchase pacemakers for ward patients who cannot afford the full price.
