On the left: the bulb is filled during hemodynamic systole while
air is vented at atmospheric pressure. On the right: compressed
air is propelled during systole causing contraction of the bulb. The
high points on the electrocardiograph below are the "R-waves "~~

the electric impulses that trigger the mechanism.
