Dear Dr. Heidelberger:
Having accepted the invitation of several of your colleagues to join the Committee of the Arts and Sciences for Eisenhower, I am writing to invite you to participate with us.  CASE has been organized as a vehicle through which men and women in the arts and sciences can conveniently express their endorsement of the Eisenhower program.  The organizers of CASE believe that science and culture flourish best in a world at peace, and that Dwight D. Eisenhower, as President, represents an effective force for attaining and preserving world peace.
Among these organizers are Detlev Bronk and Isidor I. Rabi.  Those from other fields include James Phinney Baxter, III, Eugene Ormandy, Howard Hanson, J. Donald Adams, Harry Carman, Admiral Richard E. Byrd and Helen Hayes.
One of the most encouraging aspects of CASE is that the Eisenhower Administration wants it to have a continuing life as an advisory body to the White House staff.  I am enclosing a copy of a letter from Sherman Adams, setting forth his views in respect to this.
I am also enclosing our application blank.  Membership in CASE costs $1.00, although larger contributions are accepted. Your endorsement through CASE of the Eisenhower program will encourage others to join in open support of his continuing achievements on behalf of better understanding between peoples everywhere.
We hope we can welcome you as a member soon.  If you care to, you may send your acceptance by collect telegram.
