From: AG's diary: Mon. December 23, 1935 George Draper Long talk on subject of establishment of constitutional and psychosomatic work under Palmer at Columbia. Possibility that President's Birthday Fund may take on Draper for a study of polio on the side of constitution and pre-disposition. SF and Rufus Cole have given direct encouragement to this. Cole not disposed to make any great changes at the RI Hospital in view of his approaching retirement. Advised Draper to wait for decision from de Kruif and to accept it if it comes. Draper wants academic status and salary--is not perfectly sure that Columbia is the best place--knows of no other as good--told D. I would want to know if answer from de Kruif is in the negative. Has got along well with Giles Thomas. He feels a good deal of unspoken criticism about his own work from the group around Palmer (N.B. AG will consider on 3 yr. basis if de K. says "no")
