Montreal
Visits in Montreal are mostly with Dr. Martin to Principal Currie, Animal House of Dept. of Surgery, Depts. of Physiology and Biochemistry, meeting Babkin and Collip.
Luncheon as guest of Sir Herbert Holt:
Present: Currie, Martin, Holt (Supt. Royal Victoria) Beatty (Pres. Canadian Pacific)
Discussion of possibility of aid from the RF to establish neurology on a firm basis at McGill under the leadership of Wilder Penfield. AG is impressed by the amount of local interest and the extent to which sacrifices will be made in order to retain P. (Copy EB)
In the afternoon AG looks over Penfield's quarters and meets a group of young men working in the Dept. of Surgery under RF grant for experimental work; also visits Montreal General clinical laboratories.
Dinner at the Martin's:
With Dr. and Mrs. Penfield as the other guests. Long discussion between Martin, Penfield and AG on the subject of future of neurology at McGill. Clarification of several points but no commitments whatsoever. AG's impression would be that Penfield will be inclined to stay at Montreal if facilities are anywhere near adequate. Agreed that Martin would send AG a statement of the whole matter later. (Copy EB)

Luncheon at Penfield's:
Preceded by further discussion between P. and his assistant. Cone and AG. AG confirms impression that P. is likely to make decision between Pennsylvania and McGill independent of any move on our part which would be a preferable solution. AG is impressed with the solidity and ability of P. and C.
