Lecture vol. 16 - tab D (Pst SG yrs) May 15, 1990 cover Speech by C. Everett Koop, MD, ScD Middle Atlantic Health Congress Atlantic City, NJ May 15, 1990 This talk is included just for the introductory remarks to give the user of this archive some idea of the state of the search for quality care in medicine in 1990. The lecture was repeated a number of times in that same era and appears in this archive under the title of "Issues in Health Care" as for example, May 10, 1990. Just for historical interest, this was in the days before Atlantic City became one of the casino capitals of the world and it was losing its position as one of the prime eastern coast cities for medical conventions, because the crime rate was getting just too high. When two young surgeons were walking on the boardwalk with their spouses and were mugged and killed, an organization as large as the American College of Surgeons cancelled its next meeting in Atlantic City and has never returned.
