The program was called TIPP - The Injury Prevention Program.
The lecture falls under the umbrella of childhood injury that I had already addressed in previous lectures, and was in the era before I became the founding chair of the National Safe Kids' Campaign, a program undertaken largely to reduce the mortality and morbidity of unintentional injury to children under the age of fourteen.
This is the first occasion on which I said the phrase that became the motto of that
campaign, namely that "safe kids are no accident". By that, I meant safe kids don't come about without preparation, but there is no such thing as an accident, because that takes the burden of responsibility away from everyone, because in the minds of the public accidents "just happen".
