Dear Dr. Starzl:
I am pleased to join with all your friends and colleagues at the International Organ Transplant Forum in congratulating you for your 25 years of dedication and accomplishment in organ transplantation.
This tribute is truly well-deserved.  You have explored this field of medicine with a pioneer's faith, determination, and willingness to challenge the unknown. Thanks to your efforts, transplantation has moved forward with amazing speed and effectiveness to become an established part of our health care system. Its promise has been more than fulfilled; because of you, many people enjoy the gift of life today who otherwise could not.
All of us are in your debt for the long hours you have spent in the research laboratory and the operating room to give transplant patients a second chance at life. We thank you for your compassion, your skills, and your struggle
against all obstacles to make transplantation a successful life-saving technique.
We are in your debt as well because you always work in behalf of life, and because you believe in giving life every chance. I know you will continue to be a leader in the field of transplantation for many years to come.
