Dear Senator Heinz:
I trust you are as pleased as I am to see
that the way has been cleared for Dr. C. Everett Koop,
formerly of Philadelphia and presently Deputy
Assistant Secretary for Health, to be nominated
for Surgeon General after which, of course, he must
appear before Senator Hatch's Committee for
confirmation.
Contrary to the image that has been created
by the media, I know Dr. Koop to be a reasonable,
flexible, and able administrator with far more
experience in the field of public health than
most people know.
It would be appreciated by your friends in
Philadelphia if you could give Dr. Koop all the
support you can at this crucial time in his career.
