26/March/85 Dear Howard: I am delighted that you will help with the nomenclature business. I agree it would be helpful to have some discussion, but a meeting seems prohibitively expensive, and a multi-continental conference call difficult to arrange. I hope a consensus can be reached by mail, but the tenor of letters like Dan's do not auger well. What do you think of "human AIDS virus"? Conflicting engagements (and a distaste for the previous meeting) will keep me from the gene therapy meeting on April 1. However, I will make a particular effort to be on hand for consideration of the first proposals, and I hope to see you then. I agree with Gould's sentiments; Thanks for the copy. Best regards, Harold E. Varmus, M.D.
