June 10, 1973 Professor J. Marschak Institut flr Okonometrie und Operations Research Universitdt Bonn Abteilung Operations Research D-53 Bonn 1 Postfach 589 Nassestrasse 2 GERMANY Dear Professor Marschak, Thank you for your note of June 4th. I look forward to getting the further reprints and reports that you mention which I will study with interest during the summer. Yes, I will be at Stanford this fall and I also look forward to a chance to discuss some of the many points of intersection of our interests with you. From your letter I would have to say that I think you are looking at the questions of the “costs of information" at an even more fundamental level than I had mainly in mind -~ I was thinking of problems like the optimum investment in research as applied to questions like risk reduction in controlling hurricanes or in distributing drugs and food additives. These remarks of yours simply increase the arena where we should be in touch with one another from our very different points of origination. I will not attempt to prolong this dialogue at its present distance but look forward to a closer opportunity. Sincerely yours, Joshua Lederberg Professor of Genetics IL/rr Al yA eM AbD)
