Dear Dr. Lederberg,

I am sorry we did not cross paths before or during
wy trip to Europe, but perhaps we way soon. The
evolution book is to be published in October--and

I aw at present considering a project which, for me
at least, prombses to be far more difficult.

I should like to prepare a series of semipopular, or
semitechnical, articles on basic research in the area

of DNA-RNA, protein synthesis, phage and virus genetics,
etc. I suppose one could call that the area of moleculer
or biochemical genetica. The articles would be addressed
to students whom we should like to intereat in such
research-~and perhaps to physicians who should know more
about an area whose findings may be influencing their
practice more and more.

I very much hope that we can meet and discuss some
questions that concern me. Do you plan to come east

in the foreseeable future? For example, will you attend
the Brookhaven symposium’,
