Dear Josh,

Having just seen Furness’ paper in last issue of J. Gen. Mi-
crobiol. on recombination experiments with Ki2 and coli B involving
the H-antigen of the K12 strain, we wondered if we should not dare
ask you how our little joined paper is for the moment. We are becoming
more and more afraid that you have come to the conclusion that it is

not worth publishing at all.

We beg you not to misunderstand these words, we know very, very
well that you sre extremely busy and that you have a lot of more in-
portant things to do, but as you will know everybody is most interested

in there own children even if they are newborn and not too pretty.

PS. In Furness’ paper he is stating that in crosses of the motile
K12 and the immotile coli B-strain he will only get motile recombinants
with the K12 H-antigen and never some with the "original" H-antigen

of the coli B-strain.
