(i) Nothing really new research wise:

Waclaw is "retracting" the streptomycin Lamarckian
business, slowly and vaguely -~ won't work at
less than 10° cells/ml (very suspicious - and I've
convinved him that his reconstruction experiments
may be inadequate)

(2) Dp you want some phage for Bradley - use as
unselected markers? Have 5 good ones.

(3) Under separate cover come two copies of, at long
last, kinetics. They may be used either as:
a) progress report, or
b) publish, as L and N - mostly your ideas
Would appreciate your opinion since it is up to you
_entirely - there may be a lot that has to be
changed of course.

(4) Been getting the run around here about an appointment -
impossible to talk to the OM, he's interested only in
antibiotics, Big mistake to come here as PD Fellow =
should have negotiated for position beforehand. Well,
have an audience at the end of the month - if a
definite written offer doesn't materialize I'll leave
for elsewhere since there is no use. remaining here «=
Waclaw is just picking my brains = teaching him
genetics (namely, that a mutant gene is not a deficiency
as he seems to think). Have the Waksman Merck PD
Fellowship for next year but won't accept unless get
definite written offer for succedding year and can
go abroad on fellowship.

(v) Lot of growing pains in the Institute - several
have quit and one more is leaving - Waksman runs
the place completely, unfortunately, in trouble
with industries. Lot of deadwood (deadheads)
here - his Ph D's namely. No new director in
offing - reported that Treffers was invited but
declined since he would be office boy for We
Mary Bunting now President of Douglas College.
