4558 Thorndale Road Pasadena, California Hallowe'en 1950 Congratulations to you both for the wonderful honor you have gotten. We were so very pieased when we heard the news. We are proud of you both for your contributions to science and are happy that other people (with monty, too!) recognize your worth. You are fortunate to have received the prize at such an early age--Josh, this puts you in a special class with much older men. Now you can think about it and enjoy it for several years longer than you could had you had to wait. Dear Josh and Esther, Enclosed you will find the article from the Los Angeles Times. It has undoubtedly been repeated ih other areas, but perhaps this will add to your scrapbook. If you haven't been keeping one before, surely you will after this. Will you be coming to Stanford in January as the paper said? We had heard that you would be moving but were not sure as to the date. We are contemplating a trip north sometime in the spring and if you are going to be there, we would like very much to see you if we can arrange it. That is, if you will let us come by. Nothing is definite, but please let us know if you will be there. We won't go by if you are still in Wisconsin. David is spending this year at Caltech in Ray Owen's lab. Perhaps it is the thought of not having to mend another winter in Michigan or perhaps it is the fact that California is such a welcome change (Or are they one and the same?), anyway, our first impressions of this area are good. We go back home in June. If you are in this part of the country, we have spare beds and you are always welcome. We would like to introduce you to our little boy, Doug, too. Our best to you. We think the boys in Sweden knew what they were doing in choosing you. Sincerely,
