Dear Josh and Esther:

Esther's from Ann Arbor received. Glad to hear that rapport with Jacob
is closer even though there are differences in thought on matters. I'm still
not sure that linkage by penetration time means very much to me,

Things are about the same here, I've still not gotten started. Of
things that I have ordered, Galactose is the only that hasn't come in, and
there is none on hand, I will try Ted today for some, and if he has none I
may send you an S.0.S,. for a loan, I've made an EMB mix and used lactose
as CHO and the mix seems to be satisfactory. I used Bacto Tryptone in
place of N-Z-case, I've not yet done anything about my MacConkey's medium.

Iast week I got some one to inoculate certain choice atypical myco-
bacteria onto minimal medium plus AA supplements. JI had suspected these
cultures of being auxotrophs on the basis of previous history (no growth
in Long's medium), They grew so poorly in Penassay Broth that I doubt if
any of the results on growth mean anything. Of about 6 strains only one
grew sufficiently to make turbid broth, and it also grew in minimal, contra-
dicting previous results, If you think of it would you send me some Kinetin?
Or let me know where to get some (Strong?)? Or maybe someone has already
tried it, and if so, you could advise me, Work with atypicals doesn't
appear very encouraging,

Pontecorto did not show last Friday, and perhaps may have passed us
up. Ted is out of town this week and may have known that he would not have
time for company.

Glad to hear that papers owing are reduced, I will start my own
efforts in a couple of weeks and of these you will hear more,

I'm moving again, this time to my brother's house, 2110 Poplar Street,
He leaves from Seattle for Japan August 2 and I shall hold his fort at least
for part of the three years he will be away.

There appears to me more snow in the mountains this year than last,
but I've not yet been out of Denver, There'll be a time though.
