Dear Josh:

The Committee of the Faculty has finally submitted their report
on the consideration of a Department or Division of Genetics, They have
recommended, and I have no doubt that the Faculty will accept their
recommendation, that no such departure be made at this time. Dr, Waring
and I are deeply disappointed at this turn of events, for we realize how
it will probably effect your attitude toward the possibility of ever
joining us.

Of course as you have said, there is no hurry about these matters;
in fact,it is impossible to hurry most people. In short, because of
Dr. Waring's and Dr. Meiklejohn's enthusiasm for the idea, I will continue
to seek opportunities to change the views of the opponents of the idea.

I hone you and Esther enjoy the holidays, and I hope, also, that I
will hear from you as soon after the first of the year as convenient.
