Dear Josh:

Your letter of December twenty-fifth, which must have
been written very near the time of the Léwdin party at the
dirschfelders', was waiting on my desk when I arrived a
month ago. Before I had a chance to look up Dr. Caspersson,
I broke my back (no permanent harm done and almost all right
by now, thanks), and by the time I was moving around much
again, Dr. Caspersson had started on a visit to the United
States, from which he returned Sunday. He is coming to
lunch with me next Monday, at which time we will be able

to talk about problems connected with his particular kind a
of prospective space instrumentation. I will drop you a
another note after I have seen him. f

Now Mary and I have noted the coincidence of your es
Nobel lecture with the visit of Wallace and Sonny Brode ~
(he is the Science Adviser to the Secretary of State and hence i,

my boss when I am in Washington) May thirtieth to June second.
We would like to have a party to which we would invite some
Stockholm scientists, iMcluding all those who you explicitly
ask to see and excluding all those you explicitly ask not

to see. Is that all right with you and Esther?

The Brodes arrive Saturday evening, May thirtieth, and
leave Tuesday, June second. Since Professor Klein tells
me that Dr. B&sdk wants to have you in Uppsala either
Friday or Monday, I would suggest that we have the party
on Sunday, May thirty-first. If you have made your peace

June first, we can do that.

We hope Stanford life has started happily and
that you are having a wonderful time in Italy.
