THE COLORADO FOUNDATION FOR RESEARCH IN TUBERCULOSIS GERALD B. WEBB MEMORIAL BUILDING, AT THE UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO MEDICAL CENTER 4200 East Ninth Avenue Denver 20, Colorado January 26, 1959 Dr, Joshua Lederberg Department of Genetics Stanford University School of Medicine Stanford, California Tear Josh: You probably have not known that I will be President of the American Trudeau Society in 1959-60; one of my most important duties is to select and charge an effective working Committee Structure, Without doubt our most important activity is support of Medical Education and Research. The A.T.S. Committee on Medical Research meets once a year in New York City for 2 or 3 days in March to review grant applications, Since your parents are in the East you may enjoy an expenses paid trip there in March, I know how many demands are made on your time, especially now since you have received such a high honor. I hope, however, that you will consider accepting an invitation to be on this Committee for 1959-60, We need new ideas and good criticism to keep abreast of the times, Sidney Raffel can tell you more intimately about the working of the Committee for he has served on it many times. I would appreciate hearing from you at your early convenience, Best to you and Esther. Sincerely, ft) J (« ~~ Roger S,/Mitchell, M.D. RSM:ch ce: Mr, Webster Dear Roger: It is kind of you to think of me, but I'm afraid that | am already committed to handle at least as much of this kind of work as | can afford to for the NIH. We've just moved here, as you know, and hopefully it will not be too much longer before we can get down to work seriously again. As ever, Joshua Lederberg sy yang!
