VIII / 19 - - 1958 at 10.50 P.M. Dear Joshua: Recently a local artist came to see me to ask if she could paint my portrait. I told her that my perception on paintings was -10 [check mark] and that I would have to turn her over to Mrs. Link for an opinion. If Mrs. Link thinks I could survive the 4-6 sessions . . . I might consider. So tomorrow she [END PAGE ONE] [BEGIN PAGE TWO] is to take a look at the portraits of famous Madisonians that this lady has made. I think the modern lenses can do a great job -- and I have little interest in what some artist thinks I look like. The lens does not fabricate. Tonight I had the chance to show our 5 year old Paul Karl Konrad Sputnik IIIs rocket. First at 8.41 PM- then again at 10.42 PM. The little fellow said "it look just like the blinking lights of an air-plane high up in the sky-" . . . But it has no engine -- thats [sic] something." Only from the mouths of Babes and Fools comes the truth . . . "And our grape-fruits are too small to be seen" Cordially yours with best wishes and all good cheer Karl Paul Link
