INST. FOR TUMORBIOLOGI KAROLINSKA INSTITUTET STOCKHOLM 60 DEPT. OF TUMOR BIOLOGY KAROLINSKA INSTITUTET STOCKHOLM 60 Stockholm, December 30, 1959 Professor Joshua Lederberg Department of Genetics Stanford University Medical Center Palo Alto California USA Dear Joshua: Thank you very much for your letter of December 29, which will be helpful. As you know, it is rather difficult to get travel support for a scientific team of husband and wife, since they will always be suspected for pleasure trips. For this reason, it would be actually better if Eva and I could receive separate letters of invitation, if this is not too much trouble for you. If you could mention the support quoted in your previous letter, this would be perfectly adequate and I am hopeful that we shall be able to get travel grants for both of us; I have discussed the matter in detail with the chairman of the Cancer Society the other day. It is, however, rather essential that we have separate letters of invitation; if possible, our tasks should be formulated in a different way. I am sorry to bother you with this, but I think that we shall be able to get the right result in this way. There is no hurry about it, because we shall not be able to apply before March. With love and best wishes for Happy New Year, also from Eva, Yours as ever, George Klein GK/APT
