KAROLINSKA INSTITUTET yt STOCKHOLM 60 Professor Joshua Lederbers Genetics Builfling University of Wisconsin Madicon 5, Wisconsin, U.S.A. Dear Joshua: Thank you very much for your letter. My schedule is now the following: I shall leave here cune lth. Retween dune 14th and 15th I shall be at the Ziba Founda- tion in London. Cn June 17th I shall be in Boston (c/o Dr. Balaes, Retina “oundation, 70 Sharbers Street, Eoston 14) and on dune 1£th I shall so to Kingston. tne meetings end on dune 21st and I have planned to go down to Phiadelvhia and see Jack SGehultz for one or two days after the meeting. I have passa#e reservation back fron xew York to Stockholm on June 29th which is the latest day ween I have to leave. In the reantine, that is between about cune 25th and 2°th, I should be available for a trip to Madison. As I said tcefore, I sno ld be delishted to core but I dont think it would be right 17 you would nave to so to svecial troubles to arrange this, varticularly sinée there are zood chances for us to meet next year. As far as finances are concemed, 3 125 is nore than needed since it would only be necessary to cover air transportation on the route Philadelphia-Madison-New York. If you can secure tais without tajor trouble and you are rot too busy with other thines, I should love to core. If the time is not very convenient for you or there are other daif- ficulties, however, I shall also verféctly understand and we can meet next year. So olease consult your oom convenience and just let re know how you feel about it. You can reach me at one of the above adresses. As to the Gatlinburg meeting I think “that the combination with the symposium in Madison sounds ex- celicis. If I can come to Gatlinburg, I shall certainly come to Madison too. I have corresvonied with Dr. Hollaender about the forver and, as usual, it will depend on the possibility of arranring transatlantic passace in one way or another. There is very little chance to have it covered from the Swedish side. May 27th, 1957. Frofessor Joshua Lederberg Madison 5 I have not heard from Francois Jacob as yet. The errangerents for the Internatiznal Congress of “icro- biology are progressing slowly but definitely. There is no doubt about it that the Tonsress will be able to contribute to your vassage and invite you snecially; what is not known at the present moment yet is the exact amount the Congress will be able to offer. Donations are still coming in and the economic situation will not be clarified before Centember. I am sure, however, that something will work out. iy professorship nas now been Finally approved by the Farliament, as of duly Ist this year. This settles the question about Wister. Hoping to see you either very goon or next year, and with kindest revards to both Ester and you, Sincerely yours, fame. George Klein GK /BL
