LABORATOIRE DE BIOPHYSIQUE UNIVERSITE DE GENEVE Quai de |'Ecole-de-Médecine 24 Genéve, le 14th Janugry 1959 Professor Joshua LEDERBERG Depattment of Genetics University of Wisconsin MADISON 6 - Wisconsin U.S.ALl Dear Joshua, . Thank you very much for your encouraging letter of decem- ber! It is a pleasure for me that in the meantime I have received here an appointment as professor ("extraordinaire"= associate), my laborato- ry becoming independant at the same time. So I hope that under these conditions a basis is created which will enable me to continue work here in Geneva. Many things however have still to be done and the edu- cational ptoblem looks as hard as the difficulty to get collegues to speak and discuss science with! All this does not affect however my plans for a journey through the States in 1959. I have abandoned my first idea to do it in spring. I think now, october-november would be more convenient for me, and I hope would @nable me to see you in Stanford. I thank you very much for the offered possibility of receit ving a contribution from your University. I will tell you again about my plans, when they are more precise} It would be very nice, if you and your wife could come through Geneva during your trip in Europe. Unfortunately, our Univer- sity has not yet foreseen funds for visitors, but, if your plans would allow it, I would try to find some very modest contributions. Please let me know if there is some hope ! With kindest regards also to your wife. Very sincerely yours Rh. Kellenberger
