Dear Professor Lederberg,
Many thanks for your kind letter from the 27th of January, 1956.  I have fled already to Vienna, when they sent it after me.
You can imagine how pleased we should be, both wife and me if we had the chance to work in your laboratory, but we realize, that it takes time to find space etc. at your Institute.
I hope you've got since then the reprints I've mailed you in December, last year.  Let me know, please, your opinion and criticism about our work.  Since our latest publication we have been able to obtain regularly[?] a material of pure plesane[?] globules to be produced at with.  It is completely appropriate for biochemical and genetical [sic] investigation.
You might be interested, that we fled from Budapest on the 3rd of January.  We have spent 7 weeks in Vienna[?] (that was on second leave from Hungary.  In [ . . . ] we were deported like jews [sic] to [ . . . ] worth by the SS).  Although quite aware of the favorable conditions at disposal for basic research in the U.S.A., we had to choose Canada for our new home, since it was much easier to get visa to enter here, than to the U.S.A.
Now we have many a difficulty in finding here job, since basic research (without appropriate practical value) seems to be somewhat mistrusted[?] in

Canada.  We have still the hope, that we'll find easier job in Toronto, than in Montreal, where[?] we have looked for.  I should be most obliged to you, if you had an idea about a possible job (please) for us here somewhere.  On the other hand, we do not give up the hope to meet you in the future.
