Dear Professor Lederberg?

I have taken out all the cultures of abortus-eaui and
typed them as far as I could. All of these cultures had
been transferred one or two times and were not in the tubeg
that had been originally put away, when they were no doubt
properly labelled. I have obtained the following results.

1255 5S. abortus-equi
(278 5, abortus—equi
Mo 8. abortus-bovis
WH1L, rough 8S. abortus-—equi
Piatt, rough S. abortus-equi
1966 S. abortus-bovis
COE S. abortus-equi
703B 5S. abortus-equi
C S. abortus-equi

The Schofield culture is non-motile but has O antigens
Like the other Salmonella abortus-equi cultures. Culture
1967 is rough but I believe it 1s Salmonella abortus-bovis,
the O antigens are untypeable. I have not been able to
get the following cultures to grow.
