CORN INDUSTRIES RESEARCH FOUNDATION 5 EAST 451m STREET, NEW YORK, N.Y. Reply to: 825 North University Peoria 5, Dlinois October 4, 1948 Dr. Joshua Lederberg Department of Genetics University of Wisconsin Madison, Wisconsin Dear Dr. Lederberg: We are sending you, under separate cover, a sample of 6-/a-D=gl ucopyranosyl/=D-glucose, approximately 0.25 g. It was prepared through the known crystalline derivative, octa- acetyl-6-/e-D~glucopyranosyl/-P-D-glucose. I am sorry to be so slow in sending this sample. TI have felt, however, that all samples should be standardized against the crystalline material. Your sample has the correct reducing power and rotation. The sugar is a poor crystallizer, but we have been able to crystallize it in sufficient amount to standardize it. Very truly yours, Edna M.
