Dear Joshua,

We are back since almost a month,and this is the firs
moment I have to write you with some peace. As I had anticipated,
I hed to spend some more time in New Yors for polyo vaccine,und &
had to go to Pittsburgh for the purpose.We flew back on Jan 21st.
The trip was extremely good.I have found here so much work that I
am only now thinxing again of K-12 and the splendid time we szent

Iam studying the crosses which were made in my absence by Lia
Fischer and am a little worried by some of her results.I shall
repeat all the crucial ones.The main problem is the following:
if we select for a marker (Proline, between Lac and T,)from the F+
and look for segregation of £xmm markers between Pro and the free
chromosome end ,what happens ? Some of the crosses show free segr
egation as expected for an unbroken, but poorly pairing ckhomosome
Some other crosses seem to show a bias for the F- markers even
there. I am now repeating these frosses to make sure Emxrxmyreifs
about their outcome. Fischer will repeat them in Siena. Inciden-—
tally,I Rave sent you H- (324) Pri but on reconsideration of the
data,I am not quite happy about/Iifkage with Gal. It may be spu-
rious ,and you will be in thebest conditions to test it with lam
bda.

and have started collecting literature for the book.This seems at
present the most urgent task, in view of the large amount of lite
rature especially for chapters 6,10. I have been unable to do any
