WILANES 18/8/52 Dear Joshua, Thank you for your letter of Jhly 28,which arri- ved during my absence. I am surprised that occasionally the mail from Italy (or,perhaps, from this place) suffers undue delay. Meanwhile thevditors of JGM have acknowkédged rerseipt of the typescript and also had it refereed, since they sent the enclosure to Hayes. Hayes kindly offered to maye do the corrections he can do,and discuss the rest with me at Pallanza (where Pontecorvo, who is likely to have been one of the refe- reesw, will also be) ,»then have the typescript retyped and send itdirectly to the Editor in time for the deadline. This does not leave time for you to read the new manuscrirpt, but you will have time for any corrections that you may like to make before the proofs come. However, there is still time for altering this proposed course and gektaxin letting you have the corrected ma-— BUST EP Ey Det ore it goes to press. I have temporarily accepted x ins Ae hope that the alterations proposed by the editor-and which may have been de#ailed in the typescript, now in Hayes's hands-are not seem in fact as heavy as their letter sounds. T would not take in consideration replanning of the whole work ,as they seem to elaim/as almost essential. I should start work again in the second half of September. Meanwhile, I shall be here or in fFallanza for this business of the European symposium of ™G. Yours sincerely buca
