Dear Joshua and Esther:
It seems I have recuperated fairly well from a bout with a slipped disc according to my latest examination yesterday.  Although officially I still have not been notified of support for my stay at Stanford, I expect that this will be forthcoming shortly.
I should like to confirm my arrival on or about Oct. 1 (barring any unforeseen mishaps in the considerations above).  I wonder if you could give me any general information about the availability of living accommodations along the lives of a one-bedroom unfurnished apartment in the general vicinity.  I would appreciate any suggestions you might have as to whether it would be possible to locate something suitable after arrival.
