Lonc IsLAND BIOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION COLD SPRING HARBOR, LONG ISLAND THE BIOLOGICAL LABORATORY February 18, 1942 Dr. fT. M. Sonneborn Department of Zoology Indiana University Bloomington, Indiana Dear Dr. Sernseborn: The purpose of this letter is to ask you if you will take part in the Symposium on Quantitative Biology at Cold Spring Harbor this summer, The subject is to be "The Relation of Hormones to Development.” TI am enclosing a tentative outline of the program, showing the scientists who are being invited at this time. This program has been prepared by G. W. Corner, L. C. Dunn, 0. Riddle, and W. J. Robbins. The titles listed in this outline are only suggestions for topics to be discussed. Authors are entirely free to select their own titles so long as they fall within the general scope of the topic assigned to the author. According to the present plan, the Symposium will begin on the afternoon of June 10 and continue until June 20. The beginning is timed to come after the meetings of the Endocrinologists on June 8 and 9 at Atlantic City, and the Symposium will end before the 75th Anniver- sary celebration of the Torrey Botanical Club which begins on June 22 in New York. All papers and prepared discussions will be published as Volume X of the Cold Spring Harbor Symposia on Quantitative Biology. To facilitate discussions and to insure prompt publication, all manu- seripts should be submitted by June 1. One of the main purposes of the Symposium is to facilitate the exchange of ideas between workers in borderline sciences. The Symposium is planned as one unit, with the expectancy that all participants will be present throughout the whole session. All participants on the pro- gram will be guests of the Laboratory during the Symposium, and their families will be accommodated at regular rates if living quarters are availabie. However, the Laboratory is not in a position to cover tra- veling expenses. The Biological Laboratory is offering its facilities for summer research to all taking part in the Symposium, and would like to have many members use the Laboratory 4s their research headquarters during the whole summer or during a part of it. The Laboratory is reasonably well equipped for research in several branches of piological and bio-~ physical sciences. I hope that you will find it possible to take part in this yearts Symposium. If so, I will appreciate it very much if you will fill out the enclosed sheet and return it to me at your earliest convenience, Sincerely yours, “YN | Generee | (over MIN Pe M. Nemerec.
