Dear Josh:

You probably have received the slants I sent you last
week, I have finally secured the sewage and will mail it tomor-
row, the postal regulations notwithstanding.

I was interested to hear of your experiences with
Lambda, and I am eager to hear more,

Incidentally, I got a letter from Bernie Davis saying
that he would be in Chicago Sunday on his way to San Francisco,

From you I would like a slant or slants of tryptophane-
less mutants of K-12 or its derivatives. We would like to compare
their behavior in the chemostat with our B/1,t. Also, one of the
things that I think would be nice to do would be to see whether
there wae any close linkage among those genes concerned with
the various stages of tryptophane manufacture. I’ll admit this
smacks of one gene, one enzyme, but I assure you I take a very
liberal view,

I am looking forward to visiting you soon and having
the kind of conversation that one never seems to have at our meet-
ings. Incidentally, we are going down to Bloomington, as you prob-
ably know, next weekend, more or less to suit Delbruck’s conven -
ience. I’ll write telling you if anything new appears. (Axx &!

I don’t think the University of Chicago would like to
admit any role in the purchase of a vehicle you call a car.
