October 1&4, 1947. Dr. Leland ¥, Parr, Dept. Bacteriology, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri. Dear lr. Parr, In your review article "Coliform Bacteria” which appeared some years ago in Bacteriological Reviews, you referred brief- ly to a coli strain that ferments lactose at room temperature but not at 37 C. I am undertaking here a genetic study of fermentative specificities of coliforms, somewhat along the same lines as your own. In that respect, the temperature sen- sitive coli previously cited is of conéiderable interest. is it still in your hands, or do you know of its maintenance in any other laboratory? Do you know of any other literbsure refer- ences to it? I should like very much to obtain it for study. At this late date it is perhaps doubtful whether they are - still available, but if they are,UI would be obliged for reprints of the "Coliform Bacteria", and of your publications on fer- mentative variations in coliforms. Yours sincerely, voshue:: Lederberg Assistant Professor of Genetics jl
