Many thanks for your letter. Im extremely
pleased that you have someone on the recombination
problem in actinomycetes. If he could get recom-
bination it would be most useful. Pontecorvo
tells me that G. Sermonti of the Instituto Superiore
di Sanita, Rome has attempted to get Streptomyces
heterocaryons but I have no idea how successful
he has been. Lillian Wainwright, who has done
some heterocaryon work with nutritional mitants
has also tried hyphal tip isolations, but she will
write to you separately. I have no cnance myself
to do this sort of study so please do not have any
worries as to the possible overlap.
