Dear Dr. Lederberg:

Neither Harria nor I are doing any work
along the lines in which you are interested, and I would urge
you to feal frea to do whatever you please,

We have no evidencé as to whether a random
mutation is involvede

There are two other laboratories, as far as
I know, that have expressed an interest in the properties of the
methionine=requiring strainy and at least one of them has done
gome work on ite Since I don't keep mmymnmmemnd my correspondence
these days, and my memory is not too good, I am afraid I can not
supply you with the names of the workers with whom you should
communicate. However, if you make inquiries of Dr. Roblin at
the Research Laboratories, American Cyanamid Co., Stamford, Conn.,
he will be able to put your letter in the hands of the man there
who has been doing work with such strains. At the U. of P.
department of bacteriology there is a young chap who is associated
with Sevag (not Henry), who wrote me some months ago that he was
interested in the metabloci properties of such strains, and that he
had obtained such strains from the American Cyanamid people. I'm
sorry that my memory for names is not battere

such reprints as are still available.
