Dear Dr. Lederberg:

We are planning to publish, early in 1956, a “Handbook of Genetics” (ca. pp. 850). The main
portion of the handbook will be published in Japanese, but a directory of geneticists and institutes
will be included in English. Important among the contents will be descriptions of the present
status of genetical research institutes and agencies and introduction of eminent geneticists and
their major works.

In order to assure accuracy of description, we are sending questionnaire blanks to the pertinent
individuals. May we request your cooperation in filling and returning the blanks to us at
your earliest convenience? In order to complete our edition in time, it would be greatly appreciated
if your answer could reach us by the end of August, 1955. Please mail your answers addressed to:
