Dear Lederberg:

Rach member of the Department here has been
asked to recommend someone for appointment as
a new staff member, Several of us suggested
Zinder during early discussions, and were told
that the plan was to expand rather than inten-
sify, in other words no microbial geneticists
or phsgeologists.

My current plan is to recommend someone who is
primarily interested in how genes influence
enzyme synthesis, The other requirements are
age 30 - LO, demonstrated ability, and conse-
cration to this objective. Whether he might
want to come here, and wheat incucements we
could offer, are irrelevant at this stage.

Can you suggest any names?
