CARNEGIE INSTITUTION OF WASHINGTON DEPARTMENT OF GENETICS GOLD SPRING HARBOR, LONG ISLAND, N.Y. January 2h, 1953 Dr, Joshua Lederberg Department of Genetics University of Wisconsin Madison 6, Wisc. . Dear Lederberg: We are looking very closely at the role of DNA in growth of T2. We haven't any startling results but are collecting good solid data and have developed some dandy methods for confirming other peoplets results. Sooner or later we will have to look at one of the DNA-less phages. Can you recommend to me a UV-resistant phage and sensitive host that are as much like T2 and B as possible in other respects? I haven't seen much of Zinder-- I was away when he was here recently. I look forward to seeing you both next summer at the latest. Sincerely, Cea, A. D. Hershey
