Dear Mr. Lederberg:

In reply to your letter of January 13, please be
advised that we have no information on the vitamin
content and other growth factors present in our
Bacto-Agar or our Special Agar (Noble). Special

Agar (Noble) is prepared by washing Agar in distilled
water, and we do not know if this would remove all
vitamins or growth factors present in the Agar. I

do not believe that there is any other source of
vitamin-free Agar.

Sometime last summer, we had occasion to wash some
Bacto-Agar with methyl alcohol. It is entirely
possible that the washing of the Agar with methyl
alcohol would remove some vitamins. Yith this thought
in mind, we are taking the liberty to forward you a

1 oz. sample of this experimental washed Agar, R74622A,
with our compliments.

Should you have an opportunity to use this Washed Agar,
Exptl. in your work, we would appreciate knowing of
your results.
