SUBJECT: JL Testimony before Senate Committee on Labour & Health

On January 12, Dr. Lederberg spoke before the Senate
Committee on Labour & Health, chaired by Senator Kennedy.
The invitation to JL was for a 5 minute presentation, but he
was encouraged to continue for a total of 15 minutes. Josh
reports that the gallery attendance was maximum, with con-
Siderable press. Five senators, including Senator Kennedy,
participated.

JL did not speak from a prepared text, but attached
is a copy of his reference notes, for your information and
file. JL has expressed interest in repeating his remarks,
either for the Trustees or the Council (Van, let's discuss}.
